RORO | project cargo

RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) shipping and project cargo are specific forms of transportation and the work involved is both specialist and time consuming. As the name suggests, RoRo cargoes are driven on and off the ship. This is a particularly good option for large vehicles and heavy weights. Project cargoes can include such things as an entire power station, underground trains, wind turbine components or bridge elements. In short: items which have to be loaded loose. They would not fit in a case or container. This usually demands lengthy preparation due to the many technical specifications.

Port of Zwolle has the facilities to load and offload these kinds of cargoes quickly and with little risk of damage. The companies established in our dockland ship the RoRo and project cargoes from A to B with the greatest care.

In Zwolle, the Katwolderhaven is home to a terminal which specialises in project cargoes. The Katwolderhaven is centrally located in the Netherlands and easily accessible by water, road and rail. The crane terminal has a shunting yard for trains and a good, short link to the A28, offering excellent possibilities for onward transportation to and from Europe.

Port of Zwolle has a RoRo facility suitable for the storage and transhipment of rolling stock. The terminal is fully compliant with the standard requirements [ISO 6812] for a roll on / roll off ship-to-shore connection. The ships can be loaded and unloaded quickly and efficiently. The RoRo facility is at the Zuiderzee port in Kampen.
