Third Edition of Historic Harbor Day in Zwolle

Tugboats and pushers adorn the historic Thorbeckegracht on Saturday, September 13 in Zwolle. It’s time once again for the Historic Harbor Day!

During this third edition, dozens of sailing monuments will once again make their way to the city center, brought in by their proud skippers for you to admire.

Do you also enjoy the cozy atmosphere along the quay? The skippers who love to share stories about their ships? During Harbor Day, there are activities for all ages, all related to life on and around the water. Settle down on one of the nearby terraces and enjoy delicious food and drinks. At temporary docks, tugboats and pushers will be on display, and their skippers will be there to share their tales with you.

Program – Saturday, September 13

At 10 AM, the third edition of the Historic Harbor Day officially kicks off — let the maritime festivities begin! Once again this year, we look forward to a lively and festive atmosphere around Zwolle’s historic city canal, featuring:

• An appearance by the Zwolle Sea Scouts

• Traditional crafts demonstrations and engines on display along the quay

• Model boats sailing in a large water basin

• Live music from the lively “Scheepsfolk” band and the shanty choir “De Kolksluuszangers”

In the morning, a maritime walking tour will set off from the canal and take you through the city, guided by Marcel Overbeek.
In the afternoon, the tugboats will compete in a thrilling towing contest to see who’s the strongest.

A special highlight this year: onboard theater on one of the ships!
Toos Ligtenberg and Judith Elders (De Meisjes van Plezier) will take visitors on a fun and splashy journey back in time, sharing stories of life aboard a traditional cargo ship — including the birth of little Aaltje aboard the Emanuel (a tjalk), more than a hundred years ago, right here on the city canal of Zwolle.
